Eco-friendly luxury? As antonymous as they may sound, it is possible, and Audi caught onto it early on, with the 2012 Audi A8 Hybrid.
There’s a lot to unpack with this car, so we’ll get right into it with the basics. From the outside and inside, the Hybrid version of Audi’s flagship looks just like a “regular” A8, which is nothing but a good thing, this car is nothing short of stunning.
The powerplant is commanded by the infamous EA888 series, 2.0TFSI 4-cylinder, paired to a lithium-ion battery for a combined output of 245hp. It is mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. Its total weight is surprisingly low for a full-size hybrid sedan thanks, in part, to the aluminium body, permitting swift acceleration to 100kph from a standstill in 7,7 seconds.
It is able to drive in full EV mode up to 100kph and emits just 148gr of CO2 per km, which grants it the ECO sticker in Spain, allowing it to access all city centers unrestrictedly, as well as profiting of lower taxes.
