When you buy a used car, especially a classic, you also buy a story. And this 1988 Ford Sierra has a true roller coaster of a story to go with it.
It was bought new in Mataró, at Covesa Ford, by the last owner's father. When he passed, in 2009, it went on to the son, who had it until October 2025, when I bought it from him.
They enjoyed it as their sole family car for all those years, and since they live in Barcelona, and don't really need a car outside the weekends, it has a very reasonable 168.000km.
The only reason for selling was Barcelona's low emission zone, they had to get something "eco-friendly" and couldn't keep and justify maintaining two cars. So, in October 2025, the last owner gets in touch with me via a common friend to see if I'm interested.
After 37 trouble-free years with the Sierra, the day that we meet up to check the car out, he puts a dent in the trunk backing up. Well, stuff happens... We still agree on a price and set a date for pickup.
The day I was supposed to pick the car up, I get a call from the last owner telling me that somebody had broken into the car and tried to steal it. Yes, tried. They couldn't even get that right. But they smashed a window, broke the ignition and messed up some cables and plastics.
At this point one could think this car really doesn't want to go... But I don't want its end to be so unfair. So we still went through with our deal.
Lots of searching later, we finally got a new ignition for it, replaced some wiring and a faulty throttle cable. This car deserves a second life, and if you made it this far, you might be the one to give it that.
The dent in the trunk is still there, but it can be repaired upon agreement. The car wears its original paint mostly and is generally in great condition. No rust, no structural accidents and working A/C, it's a fantastic platform for somebody's first, or twelfth classic.
